Hewett & dekanta – Hewett Acclaim Whisky Stage – Karuizawa Whisky

April 11, 2023

The Hewett Acclaim Whiskey Stage is a collaboration between the company dekanta and the Hewett Studio.

The collection houses three bottles of some of the rarest whisky on earth, Karuizawa Whisky.

I designed the Acclaim Whisky Stage to honor the craftsmanship and skill that went into making the 19 year old Karuizawa Whisky. The stage doors swing back to dramatically reveal the three bottles, each with broad shoulders of warriors. The stage itself is reminiscent of a kabuki theater and the bottles come alive with lighting from below. The lids are also handmade wood covered in lacquer and have the Hewett family crest hand painted on the top. Each bottle is decorated with the Hewett signature swoosh in black from my Bushido Series.

I began sketching this stage in the Fall of 2021 and it went through several versions before I decided on the stage you see today. One of the greatest things about being an artist and designer is watching the process of transferring thought to the physical realm.

The lacquer work was completed at the Taya Studio in Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture and the bottles were made by the craftsmen at Sakai Glass. This project has been a true passion project and I am honored to have been chosen to design such a wonderful collection. It is my hope that the collectors who purchase the Acclaim Whisky Stage will keep the stage for years to come and treasure the collection as a piece of art.

Thank you to all my partners on this project and to dekanta for their trust and continuous support.
